Dalkey

Our first trip out of Dublin proper was to a little town to the south, Dalkey. It used to be the port for Dublin, having in it seven large castles which were used to store goods brought by ships to the harbor until transportation could be arranged to Dublin. It was one of these castles that was one object of our visit. Photos 2 - 12 show the castle, a principal living area, and surrounding ancient church buildings. 13 is another similar castle down the street. The rest of the photos are of the town and its houses, seaside, and flowers photographed by Jeanine, except for photo 31, which is of flowering gorse, a spiny and impenetrable pest shrub in Ireland. .
