Wicklow Mts - Glendalough

Grant drove us up into the Wicklow Mountains (south of Dublin) to Glendalough ("glen of the two lakes"). Photo 1 is of a "labyrinth" laid out in the park lawn, a place for slow walking in meditation (it is not one of the interlaced Irish figures as seen in the garden near the Dublin Castle). Photos 2 - 16 are of a series of ancient churches and related buildings associated with a community of monks who lived there (monastery established by St. Kevin in the 6th Century). The tower was used for protection against Viking marauders. After exploring these ruins, we proceeded on a walk along the stream to one of the lakes, encountering the ruins of another church (22) and a large circular structure (24) whose purpose is unknown. The lake was beautiful and serene; we enjoyed watching the dog cooling in the water.
