Agriculture

Costa Rica grows many things for export to the U.S. and elsewhere. Banana operations (in this case at a plantation owned by Del Monte) are in photos 1-6, pineapple (Dole ran this operation) in 7-11, and coffee in 12-14 (Café Britt grower). We did enjoy the Costa Rican coffee while on this trip! Photo 15 shows a teak plantation; 16, ornamental ferns under netting; 17, cattle contained by fencing built by farmers of Poa tree posts, which root and grow into "living fences." 18 and 19 is the base of a huge kapok tree (at one time used in life vests and rafts), and 20 is a poisonous frog, the source of curare used by indigenous people years ago to tip their hunting spears.
