The Travellers

These are pictures from a vacation trip we took to Costa Rica in February, 2009. This was the result of a conversation with our neighbors, Bob and Jean Bauer, who announced one day that they were going to go. The arrangements were attractive, and it was a place we had never considered. So a party was made up of them, us, plus Bob's niece and a friend of hers. The three pairs of us met in San José (the capital) to join a tour bus full of like-minded people, shepherded by an exceptionally good local guide. We give credit to Caravan Tours, Inc. for excellent planning and execution of this tour, and at a good price.

The general format of the tour was a day of travel (including visits to one or more special destinations in route) to new lodgings followed by a day of touring and then another day of travel to a different set of lodgings, followed by another day of travel (and sight-seeing), etc. We stayed two nights at each stopping place.

The pictures, shot by both Jeanine and Chuck (using two different cameras), are culled from about 600. Links to the thumbnail pages are placed to the left of this page. Enjoy!

Oh, the picture on the right you'll recognize as an iguana (we found them in a tree), and the one on the left is a white nosed coatimundi, a large raccoon relative (grows to 27 inches plus an equal length tail), whose males (this is one) live apart from the other coatis except at mating time.
